Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers et les autres monstres sacrés du cinéma d'horreur peuvent jeter leurs masques, on a trouvé plus terrifiant en la personne des Slipknot.

Originaire de la ville de Des Moines, celle qu'on surnomme «le trou du c** des Etats-Unis», ces neuf garçons de la campagne se prennent d'une subite passion de faire du death-metal en matant Orange Mécanique à la télé. Ils cotisent donc leurs économies et en 1995 autoproduisent un premier album : Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. Remarqués par Ross Robinson, ex-producteur de Korn, qui les fait signer sous le label spécialiste Roadrunner.

En 1999, le groupe diffuse un second opus, éponyme et devient le fer de lance de la musique anti-commerciale. Ils accusent l'auditeur moyen de n'être qu'un code-barre, changeant pour cela leurs noms par des numéros (de 0 à 9) et sortant affublés de masques. Derrière ces derniers, beaucoup de fans croient d'ailleurs que se cachent les membres de Korn. La bande profite de cette confusion pour sortir Iowa en 2001 puis Vol.3 : The Subliminal Verses trois ans plus tard.

Ils participent également à la BO des films Resident Evil et à celle de Freddy VS Jason. En 2005 enfin, cartonne dans les bacs leur dernier CD : 9.0 Live, reprises de leurs plus grands hits sur scène. Devenu ainsi un phénomène de mode, Slipknot voit naître tout un tas de produits dérivés à son effigie, poupées et masques entre autres. Ironie du sort, nos neuf révoltés sont ceux qui ont fini par marketiser le métal...

Le 25 août 2008 sort l'album, All Hope is Gone. Une tournée européenne est organisée pour promouvoir le disque, mais la facture à la cheville batteur Joey Jordison contraint les groupe à l'annuler.
